House Plants Written By Mike Maunder
Houseplants have been around since the time of the pharaohs, and now they’re a billion-dollar industry around the world. But how did they get to be here in the first place? Houseplants tell the story of how they changed from wild plants to members of our homes, and how they help us interact with nature and support our health and happiness.
Plus, they’re part of our home biome and support their own tiny ecosystems. With lots of great illustrations, Houseplants is a great way to learn more about the science, economics, and culture behind houseplants.

I first read this book through an old series I used to read, and I was hooked! The minority character, how the little girl doesn’t like her mom’s garden, and the surprise ending – it’s all great stuff for a book study that kids can relate to! How can I use this book in my classroom?
I love using this book to document character behavior throughout the story. For example, at the start, the little girl isn’t too keen on her mom’s garden. But by the end, she’s changed her mind. Have your students write down their feelings and explain why they changed.
Houseplant books can be really useful because they give you all the info you need to know about houseplants, like how to identify them, grow them, and take care of them. They can also help you troubleshoot common issues like insect pests and diseases. Plus, they can give you lots of ideas for your indoor garden and help you decide which plants will look great in your space.
